You may recall that I chose the word "SHARE" (not the singer/actor) as my word of the year.
With about 3 months left in the year, I want to update you on round three points:
1. SHARE has become less about sharing stuff and more about
sharing what I’ve learned.
Back in January I talked about courses, my BLOG, SKOOL and bringing my work to more people. But something interesting has happened since then.
I have been turning decades of notes, courses, and experiences into things other leaders can actually use. For example, my BLOG and social media posts have increasingly focused on practical leadership formation, not simply ideas: stepping in sooner, creating belonging intentionally, developing leaders rather than merely training them, and leading people rather than schedules.
This is my midyear (end of summer) realization:
I thought SHARE meant getting more of my work out there. I’m now believe it to mean that I am making sure what I’ve learned doesn’t stop with me.
2. SHARE has forced me to stop waiting until something is finished.
This could be the most personal point.
A lifetime of work creates a trap: I’ll share it when it’s polished. When the course is finished. When the workbook looks right. When I have time.
But SHARE has really challenged me on that.
Somebody doesn’t necessarily need a perfect 40-page curriculum. They might need one activity, one story, one question, one idea or one lesson that helps them lead differently tomorrow.
That also connects to my long term mission: “serving those who lead and serve others.”
So perhaps:
SHARE is teaching me that something useful today may serve someone better than something perfect someday.
Fishing skit final line: "You have to keep the worms warm."
3. The real test of SHARE isn’t how much I put out. It’s what other people carry forward.
This is where I am taking the final 3 months or so...
I could easily measure SHARE by posts written, courses created, downloads, views, SKOOL members, presentations given, etc.
I know now that I had the wrong scoreboard. As a servant leader, the better question is:
What am I sharing that is being passed along to someone else?
That reckons directly back to January’s regret about wishing you had taught and mentored more people along the way.
And it gives you a great challenge for August through December:
For the rest of 2026, I don’t want to simply SHARE more. I want to share things worth passing on.
Looking back at...
January: I need to SHARE what I’ve learned.
August: I’m learning how to SHARE it.
Looking forward...
December: Did what I shared multiply?
That last question feels like the real year-end measurement of SHARE (not the singer).
